- In Coburg - the home of four ducal castles: Veste Coburg, Schloss Ehrenburg, Schloss Callenberg and Schloss Rosenau - people have always understood how to bring people's different values together under one unified Christmas spirit.
- Christmas tree decorations, wooden toys, ceramics and porcelain of kind dominate the scene of the Coburg Christmas Market which takes place in the heart of the city centre. The fragant aroma of roasted almonds, "Lebkuchen" (the delicious German-style gingerbread) and the famous Coburger Bratwurst (sausage roasted over pinecones) float through the air. A carrousel in the centre of the market square delights children and carols add to the wonderful atmosphere of the Christmas Market. Visitors can watch local craftsmen such as glass blowers, woodcarvers, glass artists, basket makers, potters and the porcelain painters of the world famous M.I. Hummel figurines at work and purchase some of their wares. Santa Claus arrives every wekend and on Wednesday in a horse drawn cariage to distribute gifts to the children.
The booths and stalls are open every day from 11.00 a.m. until 8.00 p.m. and the food an gluehwein (mulled wine) stalls stay open until 9.30 p.m.
